I Guess I Getting Older

Today's post will be in the form of a list because I'm having trouble putting a coherent thought together and a list will sort of keep me on track.  That's the theory.  We'll see if it works.

1. Today I braved Wal-Mart on a shopping expedition.  I know...I know, but I needed several random items and Wally World is the only place in town that offers one stop shopping for random shoppers like me.  One of the things that I was in the market for was this rather humble household item.
Paper napkins.  And guess what?  Wal-Mart apparently does not carry paper napkins.  Are people no longer wiping their mouths when they eat?  Or do Wal-Mart shoppers only use cloth napkins?  I have visions of people all up and the Mesilla Valley with dirty mouths and sticky hands.

2.  Before my soiree to Wal-Mart, I stopped by Taco Bell for a gourmet lunch.  Taco Bell and Wal-Mart.  That's what my life has become since I retired.  But anyway, at my local Taco Bell I placed my order and the cashier told me my total which was about a dollar short of what I thought I should be.  I look at her with what was probably a quizzical look and she replied that she had given me the "senior drink" which was free.

She gave me FREE SENIOR DRINK.

WITHOUT ASKING ME IF I WAS SENIOR AGED.

So let's recap.  I am complaining about the lack of my favorite product at a local shopping establishment and was given the senior prices at a eatery.

Just call me Memaw.

It's a Dog's Life

I have had many pets in my life.  Cats, dogs, fish, hermit crabs, mice, hamsters, and even, for a short time, a skunk. I have enjoyed most of my pets and took care of them as I should.

But one thing I noticed in San Diego is that this is one dog loving town.

Everybody seemed to have a dog and loved said dog.  We saw people walking dogs EVERYWHERE.  In Old Town, outside restaurants, and on the beach.  Theses folks seriously love their pets.

But I think this might be going a little too far.

It doesn't show in this picture because Danny and I had to be very subversive to get this photo but this is attached to a CAR WASH.  Yes, to bring you this photo we drove up to car/dog wash after closing to snap it.  The entire time we were playing spy photographer we were being given the evil eye by what I believe was a night watchman.  And considering my crime spree at the nail salon a couple of days ago, I'm starting to see a trend forming.

so my vision for the this coin operated car/dog wash is that they have little dog cages that they put the dogs in.  The owners of the dogs insert their quarters into the machine and away go the dogs down the conveyor belt.  Inside coin operated car/dog wash he is scrubbed, sprayed, and washed.  Then, he would receive a hot wax.  And at the end he might look like this lucky dog...
It could happen.

By the Sea, By the Sea, By the Beautiful Sea

Last week, Danny and I spent some time in San Diego. And here is Danny looking wistfully down the beach.

What could he be looking for, far away down the beach.  Could a bathing beauty be coming towards him?

Perhaps a bathing beauty such as these...

Or maybe these...

Wait, she's coming in focus...
Closer...

Even closer...

There she is!

Who is that bathing beauty?

A Kiss Is Just A Kiss...

After V-J Day celebrations erupted all over New York City and lead to this iconic image of a sailor planting a smack on a nurse...
You may or may not know that there is a giant statue in San Diego right beside the USS Midway called "Unconditional Surrender".

We found it.

Bad Boys, Bad Boys...

Apparently I have started a life of crime.

Yep, that's right, this memaw has became a desperado.

My walk on the wrong side began last Saturday at the mall.  I know, I know, that seems a strange place among the musak and shoppers to embark on my crime spree but that was the way it was.

I entered my favorite mall nail place for a pedicure because my feet were beginning to resemble Secretariat's hoofs.  I placed my hobbit feet in the tub of hot water and relaxed. My feet were scrubbed and massaged and polished to within an inch of their little lives.  I began to relax. My technician led me to the drying rack were I stuck my tootsies under the light.    And after my toes were dry I picked up my purse and left.

Did you notice a step missing?

I forgot to pay.

I sauntered out of the mall entrance, got in my little, yellow car, and drove to Target. As I am entering Target, it hits me.

I forgot to pay.

So I got back into my little, yellow car and drove back to the mall.  I slunk back into the mall.  As I walked in the door of the nail salon, the owner looked up at me and said, "Did you forget something?"

So I paid.

I guess I'm lucky that I didn't walk out of Target without paying.  If I had they might have sent this bad boy after me.

Sure I Felt Safe

So yesterday we flew home from our little vacation in San Diego and we while the trip was fun the flight home gave me pause...

Our first flight was our connection from San Diego to LA.  I understand that hundreds of people make the 20 minute hop between the two cities everyday so the airlines do not want to use their big jets for that hop.  I really do understand that.  But we walked out to make out connection and saw a PROP PLANE.  Yes, folks, a plane with two propellers to move it along.  Nary a jet in sight.  But I swallowed my fears and climbed aboard my small, shaky, chariot of the skies.

Twenty minutes later we landed in LA and found our gate for our flight to El Paso.  I felt confident that a 2 hour flight would have a large jet.  On our way to San Diego we had been on a regular jet with television programs to watch.  So why would this flight be different, right?

Wrong.

While this plane was larger than the first, it was by no means big.  I had some fears that were confirmed when I heard an alarm going off...and going off...and going off.  Then the flight attendant got on the intercom  and asked for four volunteers to move from the front of the plane to the back to EVEN OUT THE WEIGHT ON THE PLANE.  That's right, people were asked to move because the weight of the plane was uneven. By the time we got to El Paso, this is how I felt.

This is not me.  This is a stock photo.  But the emotion is the same.

Life is a Beach

So Danny and I decided to take a little vacation this Labor Day.

To San Diego.

And it had been great.

We have walked the beach.  We have seen the USS Midway.  We have seen one professional baseball and another one tomorrow.

We have done a little shopping and explored new restaurants.

And Danny compared his profile to that famous USO performer.

Thanks for the memories!
